AMCHAM Korea-internship programs
AMCHAM Korea offers internship programs to undergraduate and graduate university students (or recent graduates) throughout the year to bestow hands-on experience in an international business environment. AMCHAM Internship Program is especially beneficial for the undergraduate and graduate students who are seeking to gain experience in administration, corporate public policy, economics, marketing, public relations, and other business related fields. The programs are as follow:
March - June: Spring Program
July - September: Summer Program
October - November: Fall Program
December - February: Winter Program
However, internship applicants are always welcome to submit their resume and cover letter to internship@amchamkorea.org or to the desired department directly at any time, since AMCHAM's departments offer flexible schedules depending on their needs at that time.
Interns can enjoy broad range of experiences while working at AMCHAM. We treat them with professionalism, and we expect professional attitude and commitment to work from them. All interns must be proficient in both spoken/written English. Proficiency in Korean is a plus. Computer literacy and basic knowledge of economy and the government policies are beneficial.
We provide an excellent training program. During the internship orientation, the AMCHAM staff members provide the overall background information on AMCHAM including its various departments and the organization's main functions. The internship orientation provides an opportunity for the AMCHAM staff and interns from different departments to mingle and become acquainted with one another.
Once the internship program begins, their designated staff supervises them. Interns learn about various business practices by assisting these supervisors on different projects. Supervisors provide feedback for interns on their performance and essentially become their mentors. These supervisors also train the interns so that they can improve their current skills for their future jobs. At the end of each month, supervisors conduct a monthly intern evaluation with each intern, where both the supervisor and the intern sit down together and reflect on their experience.
As a non-profit organization, AMCHAM is not able to offer its interns the monetary compensation they may be able to receive in the private sector. However, AMCHAM provides value no other organization can offer them. Our interns are able to receive the exposure we believe is essential for someone who is about to enter the business world.
AMCHAM provides its interns a hands-on work experience in the industry of their interest, an opportunity to develop professional business skills, a chance to network with international business leaders, and gain a wider understanding of foreign business environment in Korea.
Interns are invited to all AMCHAM meetings and events, including General Membership Meetings (GMM) and committee meetings. This is one of the unique benefits that AMCHAM offers its interns. At these meetings, interns come and enjoy the chance to meet and network with successful business leaders from various fields and hear speeches made by world-class guest speakers from Korea and abroad. Past speakers at GMM include Steve Van Andel, the Chairman of U.S Chamber of Commerce and Dr. M.J. Chung, current Vice President of Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).
The dress code for GMMs and committee meetings is "business casual" or "formal." *
